What do you need to dive in the Columbretes Islands?
The Columbretes Islands are one of the best places to dive in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a small archipelago located, 30 miles from the coast of Castellón. It is formed by four main islands and several rocky groups. On its surface you can find a wide variety of species of birds, lizards and a flora formed by endemic and Mediterranean plants.
Under the surface, the show is even bigger and richer. The composition of the seabed allows many species to inhabit the waters of the Columbretes, creating a multicolored tapestry that makes submerging in these waters a luxury and a gift for the senses.
The Columbretes Islands are a Natural Park, so the diving in its waters must be arranged
Daily several boats depart to the Columbretes Islands, so there is no excuse not to enjoy a trip to that place and to dive in the company of the many species that live there . But … what does it take to dive legally and correctly on these Mediterranean islands?
First of all we must remember that it is a Natural Park, so that there is a surveillance and diving activities are regulated. To dive in the Columbretes Islands, the park rangers check all the documentation to verify that everything is in order and that the people who want to make these dives have the necessary experience and qualifications.
Divers must have their DNI, diving card, diving insurance and diving logbook, with a minimum of 25 dives, the last of which must have been done within 12 months prior to the activity on the Columbretes.
With all this documentation in order, the diver can start the adventure of swimming by the impressive bottoms of the waters that border the Columbretes and that are inhabited by groupers, lobsters, gilthead breams and other fish species that live in this unique spot in the Mediterranean.
